Where we work

Change 1 Child works all over the globe and is constantly expanding its reach. Below are some of areas of the world where we are currently making a difference.

USA

"If our American way of life fails the child, it fails us all." (Pearl S. Buck, author and activist). 12.8 million Children under the age of 18 are living under the poverty line in America. American children who live in low income families are 22 times more likely to be abused or neglected than children living in families above the poverty line. American children who are abused and neglected are 6 times more likely to be delinquent and live in poverty as adults.

Ghana

Ghana is a naturally beautiful country, yet poor despite all the natural resources. Many families in Ghana are unable to give their children a good basic education. About 40% of Ghana's population is made up of children; many of whom live on the streets. 55% of Ghana's children have never attended school.

Guyana

Guyana is a beautiful country located in South America but its children are suffering. 37 out of every 1,000 children in Guyana die before their first birthday. 47 out of every 1,000 children in Guyana die before they reach age five. 1 in every 5 children in Guyana lives in a single-parent household. You can help Change 1 Child in Guyana.

Uganda

Uganda has the highest rate of children orphaned by HIV/AIDS worldwide. Half of the estimated 2 million Ugandan orphans are orphaned by AIDS, with the total expected to rise to 3.5 million by 2010. Approximately 20,000 babies are infected by HIV yearly through mother-to-child transmission. We will work with Organisation for Good Life of the Marginalized, (OGLM), to reach these children. Please join us in reaching these children.

Nigeria

70 % of Nigeria's population.lives below the poverty line which is less then $1 (US) a day. Nigeria has one of the world's highest percentages of malnourished children. Six million malnourished children live in Nigeria. Despite Nigeria's vast agricultural production and its rich heritage of oil, the corrupt rule and mismanagement has pushed the children of the nation into a dark future. You can help a child in Nigeria dream of a brighter future; Change 1 Child.

Philippines

8 out of 10 children do not have access to early childhood learning resources. Many first-graders in the Philippines enter school without the skills needed to learn. Most schools suffer from a lack of basic resources, such as books, teaching supplies, and teachers. Change 1 Child.

Indonesia

76 million children live in Indonesia. It has the fourth-largest child population in the world. More than 2 million children under age 5 are malnourished and nearly one-third of children between the ages of 5 years old and 9 years old are not in school. Girls and boys also face other dangers, such as child trafficking and child labor. Children under age 18 comprise 30 percent of all sex workers in Indonesia.

India

53% of girls in India between ages 5 years old to 9 years old are illiterate. In nearly 60% of schools, there are less than two teachers to teach grades 1 through 5th grade. There is high incidence of child labor in India. Millions of children work to help their families and because of the demand for cheap labor. Unfortunately, a large percentage of children work because there is no alternative since they do not have access to schools with the resources needed to effectively teach the children.
