what we do

We Stand Up for Children of the World

Change 1 Child work with Organizations in the global communities that share our mission/vision to enrich, motivate and enhance children living in disadvantage and low income communities.

  • We put age appropriate reading materials in a child's hand, helping them to dream, imagine, and see themselves beyond their current circumstance.

  • We help to remove the labels that are placed on the forgotten children of the world.

  • We reach out our hands and teach children to read.

  • We work towards "leveling the playing fields".

"You must be the change you wish to see in the world." - Mohandas Gandhi

a few words about us

You must be the change you wish to see in the world.

Change 1 Child started in New York City in 2008. We are a group of committed citizens and humanitarians dedicated to the advancement of children in disadvantaged and low income communities globally, through literacy-based outreach approach. Our mission is literacy based because 100 million children worldwide are illiterate, 55% of those are girls. More than 72% of the world's children do not attend school and significantly more attend irregularly. Working to improve literacy is imperative for our children to grow, individuals and communities to develop, and for people to make informative and intellectual choices. It is a step in the right directing to breaking the cycle of poverty.

Our Work team

A child today, is tomorrow's future. We are committed to the children of the World.

Our goal is for children to see themselves as contributors to their community, country, and world. Reaching one child at a time allows for self recognition, accountability, and leadership qualities to develop. The ability for children to see themselves as future leaders is the spark needed to light the torch to a world of endless possibilities.

Simone Adjei

Founder/Executive Director

I started Change 1 Child with just a Dream and the idea that having an impact on a child's life today can make a long-lasting difference in that child's life tomorrow.

Elisha Carlos

Vice President

My progress is determined by my purpose; to ensure that every child is given the opportunity to grow and succeed.

Fenaba Addo

Program Director

As an avid reader, I owe my love of books and great literature to exposure I received when I was very young. I believe every child should learn to read, as it is one of the few gifts that can never be lost, grow old, or fade away.

Kaneen Morgan

Project Coordinator

I believe that we must be the change we want to see.

Yinka Agbaje

Outreach/Communications Coordinator

I believe in early intervention and its results. Children need to be respected, guided and know their self worth.

Sam Adjei

Financial Officer

I believe that we must reach children at an early age and read to them, teach them to read and instill in them a sense of self love.
